The National Incident Management System (NIMS) is an expanded Incident Command System designed for First Responders. It allows responders nationwide respond to incidents regardless of jurisdiction or geographic location and follow the same incident command structure.
Mandated under Homeland Security Presidential Directive-5 (HSPD-5), NIMS is a requirement for all responders and the compliance is tied directly to Federal Funding which includes FEMA and Homeland Security Grants
